The RaNdOm Chronicles
Episode 3 : Butterflies
"Come on!" Spottedbelly meowed. The orange and gold sky stretched delicately across the sky as she led Icestorm through the forest. The still warm air heated the air and made life inbetween the trees silent and peaceful. Red plumes of cloud showed through the holes in the leafy canopy above as Spottedbelly lashed her tail. She looked at the sunset-bleached leaves above and padded foreward. She purred as she hopped onto a moldy log. Shafts of light hallowed her as she surveyed the clearings and the trees that surrounded them. "Ice, hurry up! Trust me you don't want to miss this," Spottedbelly meowed. The red and blue tom padded up to her and panted. "What actually is what you want me to see?" Spottedbelly ignored him and got off the log. She gazed across the nearby clearing before her and meowed, "The ground begins to slope here." Spottedbelly bounded foreward, trusting that Icestorm was following her. She didn't bother to look back, but she could hear his pawsteps behind her. The two cats climbed the steady slope. Spottedbelly led with a fox-lengths distance between her follower. She felt a little uneasy with Icestorm at the moment, for they had just had another fight. Refusing to look back, she sighed softly. Her heart sank with the sun,
but the sun wasn't gone yet. She quickened her pace as a huge maple tree appeared from behind all the towering oaks and whispering willows. Spottedbelly sprinted foreward until her whiskers touched the rough grey bark of the maple. She touched her nose to it as if in greeting. Raking her claws down its side, getting ready to climb upward, she paused and craned her head to face Icestorm. He stood a ways back in the clearing that surrounded the tree. At the top of the hill, Spottedbelly could already see the sky more clearly. Forgeting him, she clawed her way up the tree, hopping from branch to branch when she could. Gold tinted leaves brushed her pelt as she got higher and higher. The air became cool and windy as she finnaly settled upon a fat branch with no leaves. The Flaming sky was brilliantly displayed before her, and all below sweeping out over the land was an endless sea of green. The sun was a yellow orb beside the burning clouds. Spottedbelly's eyes sparkled at the sight. She heard distant scrapes below her as she continued to gaze at the horizon. "Spotted-" A voice grunted. There were multiple scratching noizes. "Why-" The voice said again. There was a loud scraping sound and a loud, "Woah!!!" Spottedbelly looked finnaly over to where the branch joined the tree trunk. She saw a white paw claw the branch. It raked the bark. The paw almost fell but then another came. Now there were two straining paws gripping the branch. "I'm o-kay," Icestorm meowed as his head popped up. "It's alright," he meowed, "I can do it. No help at all!"
He pulled himself up and looked about. "Wow," He growled. "Yeah," Spottedbelly meowed. They both purred fondly. Still she felt uncomfortable around the tom she cared so much about. He didn't look at her at all, not even once as the sky reddened further. She sighed quietly. As if by her sparse breath, thousands of millions of scarlet butterflies fluttered out of the trees all around. They formed large moving clouds of wings as they flew toward the sunset. They even flew in great numbers right past the two cat's noses. One even landed on Spottedbelly's forehead. It wiggled slightly. "Squishy!!!" Spottedbelly cried with pure joy.
Squishy flapped his little slender wings and lifted off of her head and disappeared into the masses of butterflies. Her heart lifted, but when she looked at Icestorm, he was looking at a simple squirrel up above in the branches overhead. Spottedbelly supressed a growl. She silently skidded down the bark and slowly made her way to the ground. As she hit solid soil, she looked up to see if Icestorm had followed. He was nowhere to be seen. Angry and depressed, she padded away from the spectacular show up above. Unhappy thoughts swirled in her mind. Sometimes she wondered if Icestorm even cared about her. Sometimes he did, other times she wasn't so sure, and Spottedbelly knew she should be able to tell. Tears mixed with her angry face as she continued blindly. "Hey, Charlie. Hey, Charlie wake up!" "Yeah Charlie, you silly sleepy head, wake up!" Spottedbelly looked around wildly. A pink unicorn and a blue unicorn come walking toward her. Spottedbelly froze. "We found a map to Candy Mountain. Candy Mountain, Charlie!" "Yeah, Charlie! Come with us to Candy Mountain. Come with us Charlie." "Yeah, it will be an adventure! Wer're going on an adventure, Charlie!" "I'm not Charlie," Spottedbelly hissed, "and Candy Mountain? Come on like I'd go." The blue unicorn jumped into the air and said, "Nooooo, Spottedbelly. You have to come with us to Candy Mountain." The pink one took up, "Yeah Spottedbelly, Candy Mountain! It's a land of sweets and joy, and joyness." "Please go away," Spottedbelly meowed. "Candy Mountain, Spottedbelly!" "Yeah, Candy Mountain!" "Alright!" Spottedbelly yowled, "fine I'll go with you to Candy Mountain." All of a sudden they were walking along a forest path. The unicorns trotted up ahead of Spottedbelly and sang in unison, "La la la, la la la, la la lala. La la la." "Alright enough with the singing already," Spottedbelly snarled. "Our first stop is over there, Spottedbelly." They came to a stop at a fork in the forest. "Oh StarClan what is that?" Spottedbelly meowed while staring at this humungous fish-lizard thing. "It's a leourplorodon, Spottedbelly," the blue unicorn said. The other one took up, "A magical leourplorodon." "It's gonna guide our way to Candy Mountain." Spottedbelly looked at the two unicorns and meowed, "You guys do know that there is no actual Candy Mountain right?" The unicorns looked at her and said, "Shun the non-believer. Shhuuunn. Shhhhhhhhuuuuuuuuuuuunnnnnnnnn." Spottedbelly growled, "Yeah." The monster ahead of them growled. The blue unicorn trotted toward a path and said, "It has spoken." "It has told us the waaayyy." Spottedbelly stood there and yowled, "It didn't say anything!" Now they were on a tight bridge hanging over a canyon. The blue unicorn at the head of the line on the bridge said, "It's just over this bridge, Spottedbelly." "This magical bridge, of hope and wonder." "My paws are getting covered in splinters," Spottedbelly meowed, "Seriously guys, we shouldn't be on this thing." "Spottedbelly. Spoootttedbeeelly. Spoootttedbeelly. Spotted-" "What!," Spottedbelly spat, "what is it?" "We're on a bridge Spottedbelly!" They were then in a meadow after crossing the bridge. They walked on until the blue unicorn said, "We're here!" "Well what do you know? There is a Candy Mountain," Spottedbelly meowed. Before them was a small mountain made of candy that had a sign on top of it saying 'Candy Mountain.' The blue unicorn started to do unnatural things and say, "Candy Mountain, Candy Mountain, you fill me with sweet sugary goodness." "Go inside the Candy Mountain Cave, Spottedbelly," the pink unicorn said. The blue one said, "Yeah Spottedbelly, go inside the cave. Magical wonders you will behold when you enter." "Thanks but no-thanks," Spottedbelly meowed, "I'll stay out here." The pink unicorn said, "But you have to go inside the Candy Mountain Cave, Spottedbelly." Then all of a sudden red letters that spelled "candy" flew out of nowhere and annoying show music started playing. They sang, "Oh, when you're down and looking for some cheering up, then just head on up to the Candy Mountain Cave. When you get inside you'll find yourself a cheery land. Such a happy, joy-filled, perky, merry land. Lollipops, gummie bears, and candy things. Oh so many things that will brighten up your day. It's impossible to wear a frown in Candytown, it's the mecha of lovely candycane. They've got jellybeans and coconuts and many hats, candy rats, chocolate bats, It's a wonderland of sweets. Take a Candy train and come hear the Candy band, candy bells it's a treat as they march across the land. Cherry ribbons stream across and to the ground. Turnaround, be astound, it's a dancing candy tree. Candycane imagination run so free! So Spottedbelly would you please go into the cave." The letters came to together and exploded. Spottedbelly snarled, "Alright! I'll go into the freackin'
Candy Cave. This better be good." She walked into the cave and was met with only darkness. The unicorns said in unison, "Yaaaahhhh. Good-bye Spottedbelly."
"Yeah, good-bye Spottedbelly." "Good-bye? What?" Spottedbelly meowed. Suddenly the entrance closed like a sliding door. "Hey! What's goiing on here!" Spottedbelly cried, "Hello? Who is that?" A bang came and then blackness. Spottedbelly awoke on her side, "awww, StarClan. Ugh, what happened?" She looked at her side. "Aww, they took my freackin' kidney!" She found herself were she was before the unicorns had found her. She turned tail and ran. She ran and ran, not noticing that it was dark now. She ran blindly until she hit something soft. Icestorm sat before her. He started as she rammed into his side. Spottedbelly, glad and overwhelmingly thankful, pressed up against his side and intertwined tails. "Where were you?" he meowed. "You don't want to know." "But-" "Trust me,"
Spottedbelly rasped, "You don't."
